In our Maths lessons we have been learning all about the properties of 3D shapes. The children identified and named a range of 3D shapes and recorded how many faces, edges and vertices each shape has.
In our History lessons we have been learning all about Florence Nightingale. Florence was a nurse who cared for soldiers during the Crimean war – she changed the way patients were treated, improved conditions of the hospitals, and became the founder of modern nursing.
Class 6 were absolutely amazed to see Florence appear in our school! She must have travelled here from the past! She was a very kind lady and told us all about her life and her experiences as a nurse in the 1800s. The children asked her lots of brilliant questions and learnt lots of facts about her. They then wrote some fantastic recounts of her visit.
In our Healthy Minds session this week the children learned that taking notice of the world around us can help us to relax. We talked about the ‘Take 5’ method – when we are feeling anxious or worried we can use our senses to notice 5 things we can see, 4 things we can touch, 3 things we can hear, 2 things we can smell and 1 thing we can taste. The children then completed a mindfulness colouring activity.
Natalie from the Healthy Minds Team visited us this week to talk about ‘The 5 Ways to Wellbeing’. These are 5 simple things we can do everyday that can help us to feel happier and more positive:
1. Connecting with people
2. Taking notice of the world around us
3. Learning
4. Being active
5. Giving to other people – like a smile, a compliment or sharing something.
The children learnt that connecting with people can help us, and them, to feel special. We can connect by doing things like talking to our friends and family, helping a friend with something, eating a meal with family or playing a game with a friend.
The children in Class 6 have been using their senses to write some fantastic poems all about Bonfire Night. They even included onomatopoeia to describe the noises that the fireworks make – like whoosh, zoom and bang!
We are so proud of the children for their brilliant performance of The Little Black Cloud this morning. They all did such a fantastic job! ️️
Thank you to all of the grown ups for coming to see our show, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
The children in Year 2 have had a fantastic day at Openzone at The Word this week. They used green screen technology to create videos of themselves saying facts about the continents and oceans of the world. They then added text and music to their videos.
The children even created some amazing Lego duck animations using the StikBot app
In our Science lesson this afternoon we have been learning all about microhabitats. We found lots of different microhabitats in our school grounds and counted the mini beasts we could see living there. We found worms, slugs, beetles, spiders, ants, caterpillars, centipedes and a snail! We then created pictograms to show our findings.
This week the children have been ordering two digit numbers and counting in twos, fives and tens using number lines. They have done some lovely maths work involving counting forwards and backwards in twos from a range of even numbers.
