We discussed the different emotions we can have an how it is normal for us to feel these different ways, we can feel; happy, sad, angry, anxious, bored, embarrassed.

We discussed who might help when we are feeling sad or angry.

I talk to mammy when I’m sad – Henry

I am feeling sad and then mammy and daddy give me a hug – Maxwell

We also discussed what makes us feel happy;

Singing makes me happy – Kezia

A mystery delivery…

9th January 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we arrived in our class to find a huge box had been delivered to our classroom. After inspecting the box we found that there was a set of very special instructions which we needed to follow.

The rules stated that we could not;

Feed it

Cover its air holes

Touch the box

Make lots of noise

After reading these rules we knew that what was inside must be alive and if we put our fingers in its holes it might have a nibble! We decided to become detectives and created a warning poster about what might be in the box.

I think it’s a dangerous alligator – Henry

I think it’s a scary snake – Kezia

We were shocked to find that the creature broke out of the box during the day and found that it was in fact a dinosaur! We can’t wait to learn more about dinosaurs and share some amazing facts!

Christmas!

18th December 2024Sophie Bruce

This week we have enjoyed celebrating the run up to Christmas.

We have enjoyed taking part in lots of activities, such as; creating our own tree decorations, we made these by threading beads onto a pipe cleaner and. Then bending them into our desired shapes.
We have also been very creative cutting and sticking Christmas tree designs and snowmen figures!

We have been practising our Fine Motor skills by placing small snowflakes onto patterns on baubles.

We all had an amazing time at our Christmas party. We enjoyed taking part in lots of games, we know that it doesn’t matter if we win as long as we are having fun and trying our best!

We thoroughly enjoyed playing pass the parcel and cheered every time one of our friends won a prize!

We are very much in the Christmas spirit!

Class 1

Our local walk ‍♀️

29th November 2024Sophie Bruce

This week Class 1 went on a walk around our local area, whilst on this walk we were on the lookout for lots of different buildings and signs. When we spotted signs we discussed what shapes we could see and how we knew this, we also talked about what the signs were trying to tell us such as; a nearby school, a street name or a warning to watch out for people crossing a road.

After our walk we returned to school and discussed what we saw during our walk, we then discussed what a map was.
A map is a drawing tells you where to go – Henry

We worked together to recreate a map which showed where we had been during our local walk, we then labelled this so that we could identify the different places we had seen.

Our first coaching session

22nd November 2024Sophie Bruce

This week we enjoyed having a new coach come into our school to show us lots of different skills.

We started by practising our skills moving around a space using a fast pace, we needed to avoid being tapped by a ball being held by one of friends in class. If we were caught we needed to stand still spreading our legs far apart to make a star shape, we then needed to wait for one of our team mates to carefully move under our arms.

We then practised our throwing skills as we tried to throw our a ball at the lower part of the opposite teams body, we needed aim accurately so that we could carefully throw a ball and kicked our team mate out of the game. We also needed to work hard on our moving skills as we needed to be able to move quickly and safely out of the way of the balls if we saw one coming.

We all worked very hard and were able to explain how we can move effectively to avoid bumping or knocking into different objects.

Remembrance Day

13th November 2024Sophie Bruce

This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We learned about why we have Remembrance Day and how we mark this occasion;

Gray – The soldiers died a long long time ago.

Aria – The soldiers died a long time ago.

Piper – We have to remember them.

We created poppies in lots of different way in our classroom, using Lego bricks we stamped a poppy petal design and then painted our stems using green paint, we were able to create lots of beautiful flowers.

Henry – Wear a poppy to show we remember.

Thomas – Poppies are red.

Iiona – I made a big poppy for a soldier.

We created our own pictures to show what we could remember about Remembrance Day and then labelled them using initial and ends sounds that we could hear.

Class 1

Celebrating Diwali

8th November 2024Sophie Bruce

This week we have been learning about Diwali.

We enjoyed hearing the story of Rama and Sita who were banished by the King, they then bumped into an evil God Ravanna who kidnapped Sita. Thanks to a magical arrow fired by Rama, Sita was saved and lamps were lit to guide them both back home. Showing that light always triumphs over dark and good over evil.

Class 1 enjoyed learning about;

  • Why is Diwali also called the Festival of Light?
  • How do families celebrate Diwali?

We enjoyed creating our own patterns on hands similar to how Hindus would during Diwali. We also enjoyed recreating a Rangoli pattern in glitter, we needed to carefully copy the pattern using our fingers.

Class 1

Halloween in Class 1

24th October 2024Sophie Bruce

This week we have enjoyed celebrating Halloween by taking part in lots of activities themed around Halloween.

At the beginning of the week we enjoyed creating our own Autumn Wreaths using the objects we had collected from outside. We used glue to ensure the objects stuck and added bats to make them scarier.

We have also been rescuing spiders from the orange slime in our classroom! We needed to very carefully removed the spiders using the tweezers, thankfully we saved them all!

We have also been creating our own Witches Potions. After reading “Room on the Broom” we were all very eccvoted to create our own potions using a huge cauldron and chanting our spell. We wrote our potions down, stored them and exclaimed “iggerty, ziggerty, zaggerty, ZOOM!”, together we made a new story appear into our classroom!
