Curious Pirates ‍☠️

2nd May 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we have started our new pirate topic, we were shocked to discover a treasure chest on the middle of our classroom, when we first saw it we thought it could belong to a pirate but we needed to empty it to be sure! When we emptied the chest we discovered a hook, sword, coins and a flag, from this we knew it must belong to a pirate!

We enjoyed exploring our role play area as it can transformed into a pirate ship! We also enjoyed feeling creative as we made our own treasure chests out of cardboard boxes!

We then began to share what questions we wanted to find out about pirates, we can’t wait to do our research all about pirates and learn lots of facts!

Class 1

Spring!

3rd April 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we have enjoyed learning about Spring, we have discussed the weather changes we have noticed and the wildlife which has begun to change.

It gets hotter – Charlie

The tress get leaves growing on them – Miya

The animals come back out from hibernating – Piper

We know that lots of flowers begin growing during spring so we have been planting our own sunflowers, we know that seeds need 3 very important things to help them to survive.

Plant the seed in the soil – Maxwell

Water the seed – Ivy

Put the seed in the sunlight to grow – Gray

After planting our seeds we wrote our own instructions to tell everyone how we keep our plants alive.

Class 1

Jack and the Beanstalk!

28th March 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk, we worked together to create our very own class story walk to help us retell the story on our own.

We all did an amazing job verbally retelling the story when using our story walk, we all loved being able to do our own Giant voices when he shouted “Fee Fi Fo Fum!”. We then wrote our own version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

We also created our own beanstalks using card for leaves and fluff for the clouds.

Class 1

Numberlines!

21st March 2025Sophie Bruce

This week in Class 1 we have been practising using numberlines to support us when answering number sentences.

The first part of our maths meant we needed to be secure in what each maths signs means.

+ means the number will get larger and we add more – Aria

– means the number will be fewer to take them away – Lucas

= means how many altogether – Kezia

Once we could read our number sentence we then identified how we would work this out using a number line. We knew that if we were adding we moved up the number line as the number would be greater and if we were taking away we moved down the number line as the number would be less.

Class 1

14th March 2025Sophie Bruce

In class 1 we have received some very special visitors…..we have our very own caterpillars to look after!

We are so excited to learn about these caterpillars and watch them grow! This week we have enjoyed observing our caterpillars grow since we received them, to keep track of this week have been recording our observations with our own drawings and sentences.

We have also been learning about the lifecycle of a caterpillar, we worked hard to order the cycle and then wrote instructions for a caterpillar to follow in order to become a butterfly.

We also enjoyed pairing our own insects this week!

Class 1

World Book Day

7th March 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we enjoyed celebrating world book day, we all arrived in school wearing a costume which represented a job we would like to do when we grow up.

To continue sharing our love for reading we also drew a picture of the front cover of our favourite stories and the. wrote about an event which happened in them.

We also did a fantastic job during our class assembly as we shared the importance of reading  and what where we can continue reading.

Class 1

Our futures!

20th February 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we have been having lots of discussions about what we will be doing when we grow up. We know that when we grow up we are able to start looking at having a job, we know that this is very important as it can help us to look after ourselves when we grow up.

We need a job for money – Eleanor

We can buy a house – Miya

We need to buy food – Piper

We know that different jobs require different skills in order to complete them well.

Your have to be good at counting to be an accountant – Maxwell

You need to have good listening as a doctor – Aria

We also know that it would be good to enjoy the job we do, we discussed things we are passionate about and how we could then use this to gain a job when we’re older.

I like drawing and can be an art teacher – Ivy

I am good at building things. I can build houses. – Gray

We decided on what jobs we would like to do when we grow up and drew how we thought we’d look doing them.

Class 1

Fantastic Phonics!

13th February 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we have been working hard to read longer words by chunking them up, we know we can start reading these words by identifying any digraphs first. After that we then decide if a word needs to be chunked up to support our reading. We have all done an amazing job chunking up our longer words.

l-a-p lap t-o-p top laptop – Henry

l-e-m lem o-n on lemon – Aluna-rae

We have also been working hard to identify trick words, we know our tricky words and can read these without sounding them out, we also shared what makes these words tricky.

They is tricky because the e and y are making an ay sound – Aria

Class 1

We are all musical!

6th February 2025Sophie Bruce

This week in Class 1 we enjoyed using some music instruments. We were all given a glockenspiel to explore and use to create a short tune. We firstly had a small try of each note to identify higher and lower pitches.

We then focussed on the note names on each chime, we looked very closely at the C note as there were 2 different ones. We heard that one was higher pitched than the other, we practised making a small tune using only the 2 C notes.

We were then introduced to another note which was D, we then were able to create a small tune using the C and D notes we have just learned. We can’t wait to learn about more of the notes and create more mini musical compromises!

Class 1

Chinese New Year

31st January 2025Sophie Bruce

This week we have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year as we know this was celebrated on Wednesday. We learned about how people prepare for Chinese New Year and then celebrate it on the day and the days following on.

People clean their houses before it – Aria

They wear new clothes for Chinese New Year – Kezia

They wear red and gold because it’s lucky – Henry

We were very lucky to get to try some Chinese food during Chinese New Year, we all loved the noodles and prawn crackers!
