Thank you to those parents who attended our Spring maths workshop. This term we have focussed on Place Value and ways in which you could support your child at home.
This week in P.E we have been learning and practising our racket skills. This is in preparation for net games later on in the half term. The children found it challenging but persevered. 
Children were exploring their scientific enquiry skills today by sorting and classifying pictures of materials. Children grouped them accordingly and came up with some excellent reasons and ideas.

This week the children have been exploring the concept of multiplication. We have been practising grouping, repeated addition and understanding the term ‘multiply’.
Last week, the children in year 2 attended a festive multi-skills event at Temple Park. The children demonstrated the PE skills that they have been developing this term through a range of festive games! This included throwing and catching ‘Santa’s presents’, dribbling and kicking in ‘festive feet’, running, crawling and jumping in ‘Sleeping Santa’, and their listening and co-ordination skills in ‘Build a snowman’.
A huge thank you to all of those parents who attended our reading meeting on Wednesday 13th December. It was lovely to see the interaction between children and parents and taking time to understand how children’s reading skills are developed throughout Year 2.
The workshop focussed on both decoding and early comprehension skills.
This week we have continued to study the artist Georges Seurat. The children have explored the idea of pointillism and linked it to our History topic, Florence Nightingale. The children created a piece of artwork which represents Florence.
Today we have been revisiting our music learning so far this term. We have been learning about pulse and rhythm.
The children were rehearsing and performing pulse to music and creating actions to demonstrate their understanding. We then used the glockenspiels and began to play a simple rhythm pattern, we had great fun!
Year 2 have had a fantastic day today visiting ‘The Word’ learning centre in South Shields. We travelled by metro and then took a short walk to the centre.
The children have had the opportunity to learn and practise key learning objectives from our computing curriculum. These included programming and coding.
All children used the Lego program ‘Spike’ to programme a variety of different amusement park rides and then used Scratch Junior to learn how to code and set a simple set of algorithms.
Well done Year 2!
This week, the children have enjoyed making houses designed for the period of 1666, the great fire of London. They have created designs thinking about different styles, shapes and sizes and then sourcing different materials to make them come to life!

They have really enjoyed this topic in History and have learned lots of facts. Well done Class 5.
