Following on from last week’s arctic habitat designs, this week we used our designs to create our arctic animals habitat.

Following on from last week’s arctic habitat designs, this week we used our designs to create our arctic animals habitat.
Class 2 have been learning all about Antarctica. We watched many videos and discussed what life would be like living there, we talking about clothing we would need and what the weather would be like.
We the chose some arctic animals and learnt some amazing facts about them.
Ask your child what blubber is and which animals have blubber.
We then designed an arctic animal habitat, really thinking about what that particular animal needs.

This half term our new topic is Winter Wonderland. We will spend the next half term learning all about this part of our world, including arctic animals, weather and so much more. ❄️
This week we have started watching some videos on Antarctica and imagining we are there in our new role play
Beautiful firework pictures!
Ask your child what they can recall about bonfire night…
How do we stay safe on bonfire night?
What sounds would we hear on bonfire night?
Who is guy Fawkes?
What does plot mean?
Extra challenge, do they remember the year? Was anything different back then to now?
Lots of Halloween fun in Class 2 this week
We have
Created Halloween wreaths
Strengthened our fine motor skills by using tweezers to capture the spiders from the slime
Made our own Halloween decorations
Created a witch’s brew by reading the ingredients and counting out the correct amount
Went pumpkin picking for letters to make words
️ Added the correct amount of spiders legs (mini pegs), supporting our counting skills as well as our fine motor skills
After reading ‘Leaf Man’ followed by ‘A Superpower like mine’ we decided to make our own leaf creatures and give them superpowers that come from the inside. These super powers were
✨ resilience
✨ Good listening
✨ Braveness
✨ Patience
✨ Creativeness – using our imagination
✨ Kindness
We created our own AMAZING leaf creatures, used our imagination and made a story up about our creatures, including their superpowers which came from the inside.
Ask your child all about their leaf creatures and ask them what superpowers they had and why.
We have been reading We’re going in a Leaf hunt
We have observed and discussed the changes we observe in our garden, the leaves are falling from the trees, the weather is getting colder, rainy, windy, misty but still sunny, we need warmer clothes, the leaves are various colours, animals hibernate in autumn and we know Halloween happens in autumn, but it’s yet to come…
We have been reading and retelling SUPERTATO… we then designed and made our own Superveg and super fruit.
We then discovered that the evil pea had been sneaking around in our classroom and freezing our vegetables!!!! We needed to think of a plan in order to rescue the veg…
”We can use hot water to melt it” – Leo
“My mam has a hair dryer that’s hot to melt ice.” – Isabella
“A hammer will smash it” – Lewi
”It’s sad it’s not hot anymore that might of worked.” Holly
Each week in reception we have a number focus, we focus on this number for the whole week and ensure the children have a deep understanding of that number. Recognising the number, counting objects of the amount, counting physical movements of the amount, recognising one more and one less, understanding what the number is made up of etc.
This week our number was 3!

After we had a secure understanding of three, we created a number poster for 1, 2 and 3. I am so proud and amazed at Class 2’s incredible understanding of the numbers we have currently learnt.
This week we have looked at the various zones of regulation and discussed the feelings we feel when we are in a certain area. We talked about different ways of regulating our emotions to get us back into the green area.
In our classroom we have a Zones if Regulation area where the children can put themselves on a zone and we can talk about how we can help them get back to the green zone.
Teaching self regulation is sooo important as it teaches our children how to monitor their feelings and behaviour and how to respond in an appropriate way as well as teaching them how to look after their mental health.
We then used some emotion pebbles to discuss various feelings and talk about what we can do if we are no longer in the green zone and no longer feeling happy/calm etc. We know how super important it is to look after our brains and bodies. We talked about taking deep breaths, counting to 20, moving our bodies, speaking to someone we trust, doing something you enjoy, hugging someone you love, squeezing a fidget toy or a teddy, having a chill out etc.
