When I Grow Up…

This week we have been looking at careers. We read the book ‘What Jobs Could you do?’.
We talked about things that make us happy to help support what job we could do.

For example
Izabella said she enjoys being with animals so she wants to be a zoo keeper.
Alex enjoys getting messy so he’d like to be a farmer.
Holly loves painting so she’d like to be an artist.

We talked about key skills when getting a job:
Passionate – doing something you enjoy
Communication – being a good listener and talker
Teamwork
Attendance
Punctuality – being on time every day

Ask your child what job they would like to do and why? What skills do they need for that job?

Dino Experts!

6th February 2025A Aldcroft

Class 2 have been using story stones to think of their own dinosaur facts! They were able to think of a fact, verbalise it, count the words and then write it down. They could also extend their thinking by explaining verbally more about their fact!

For example,

Alex told me “a stegosaurus has long spikes on his tail to fight away a Tyrannosaurus rex because he’s trying to eat him with his long, sharp teeth because he’s a carnivore”

Kai: “He hunts meat like other dinosaurs that’s why he has sharp claws.”

Layla G:  “palaeontologists find the fossils, that’s how we know they were really here ages and ages ago.”

Speed, Agility and Travel

21st January 2025A Aldcroft

In today’s P.E we were focusing on direction and speed.

We focused on the vocabulary forwards, backwards, sideways and direction. We talked about a car changing direction on a road and we practised this with our bodies.

We played lots of games which encouraged us to listen to the instruction and move our bodies accordingly.

Dinosaur Poo!!

16th January 2025A Aldcroft

This week after reading ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped the Past’ we were absolutely mortified to discover a dinosaur had been into our garden and pooed in it!!!!!!

We then found MORE poo in our classroom!!!! We’re a bit worried the dinosaurs in our Jurassic World role play are leaving poos everywhere while we aren’t here!

But look at the incredible writing that came from it!

The Mysterious Box

This week we came back from the holidays to find a mysterious box in our classroom with danger signs and a warning note attached!

We have no idea how it got there however the children had some amazing ideas of what might be in the box! We know it’s alive as the warning note stated it eats as well as breathes!

A fluffy cat (Leo)
A big, poisonous snake (George)

After lots of discussion and some amazing language used we decided to create a warning poster to warn the rest of the school about the dangerous creature we could potentially have in our classroom!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

We have had the best final week at school in the run up to Christmas.

We have

Made gorgeous decorations for our Christmas tree

Came back to school in our pyjamas when it was dark and had a cosy Christmas night in with a Christmas story, hot chocolate and lots of Christmas crafts

Created a seasons calendar ready for 2025

Performed our Christmas show, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, to our grown ups and blew everyone away with how confident and amazing we were!!

Attended our Christmas party full of fun and games, danced our hearts out followed by some lovely party food

Made our own Christmas trees

Joined in on Christmas jumper day and also designed our own Christmas jumpers

Created the cutest Rudolph cards for our grown ups

Wrote Christmas cards to our friends and family

This week we have been learning all about how to keep our teeth clean and the importance of keeping our teeth clean.

I have loved seeing all of the videos being sent in from home, recapping and securing your child’s knowledge of oral hygiene!

Our Local Area

29th November 2024A Aldcroft

This week we have been on a walk around our local area. We observed and compared the various buildings we seen (school, nursery, houses, shops, church, metro station, and even George’s Nannies bingo hall) and we discussed how they are similar and different. We spotted many 2D shapes and we were able to discuss how we know it was that shape I.e. the road sign had three sides, therefore its a triangle. We observed the weather and talked about why it was very important we were wrapped up warm.

When we returned to school we recapped and discussed our walk and then made maps of our local area. We then challenged ourselves to recall which country and town we lived in, remembering that we must listen very carefully to the language used (country\town).
