As part of our transport topic, we have been exploring Peter Thorpe’s ‘Space Art’. We explored his different paintings of rockets and discussed the colours he used and why we thought he had chosen them. We then created our own rocket paintings

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our reading afternoon to share a lovely book with your child and spend some quality time together
This week Year 1 spent an afternoon with their adults, exploring some wonderful books and sharing some of their favourite stories!!✨
The children loved spending some time with their grown ups and showing them what amazing readers they are!

In Geography, we have been exploring non-European countries. We used iPads to research the country Canada. We found out that…
Canada is in North America
The capital city is Ottawa
Maple syrup is very popular and is usually eaten with bacon and pancakes
Ice hockey is a very popular sport
It is the second largest county in the world
This week we have been researching Famous Pirates ☠️
We have also been making our own Jolly Roger’s
Class 2 were absolutely flabbergasted to find an awful crime had been committed in their classroom! Someone had trashed the class AND stole one of our precious items!!
After we found the awful crime scene we decided to make some wanted posters in the search of this evil pirate, making sure he can’t commit anymore terrible crimes!
This week we have been learning all about non-fiction texts. We looked at what non-fiction means and features of a non-fiction text. We then explored the book ‘My Bean Diary’ which shows us how broad beans grow from a tiny bean into a plant. We therefore thought it was only right we planted our own beans so that we could watch them grow. We talked about what our beans need to grow and made sure we provided these so the bean could grow. We are so excited to see how they change over the next few weeks!!
This week, Class 5 have been reading the non-fiction book called ‘Broad Bean’ and they planted their own broad beans after gaining inspiration from the book! We are so excited to see them grow.
In Extended Writing, we wrote instructions to help other people plant one, too!
We were superb at remembering to…
⭐️ Use bullet points for our list
⭐️ Number our steps
⭐️ Include time connectives
⭐️ Use imperative verbs
We even wrote a top tip!
This week we found a mysterious treasure chest in our classroom. Once we had opened it we found lots of amazing items, we think a pirate must have left it in our classroom! But why? We then realised we don’t actually know much about pirates and we want to learn more! So we came up with our own pirate questions which we are going to research and become pirate experts!
