Healthy Teeth

This week Class 1 have been looking at healthy teeth. We talked about how important it is to keep our teeth healthy and discussed ways we could do this. We then looked at foods that are healthy and unhealthy for our teeth and had a go at sorting them.

Here Comes Jack Frost❄️

1st December 2025Chloe Smith

After reading Here Comes Jack Frost, Class 1 received a very important letter… a letter from Jack Frost himself!! It told us that Jack had been to visit us but because it has been so hold, he lost his hands and needed our help to find them! We quickly set off in search of his hands and finally found them in our garden! We took turns to feel his hands and used some fantastic vocabulary to describe them, including;

❄️ Freezing

❄️ Icy

❄️ Chilly

We then talked about how we could make sure Jack’s hands didn’t melt until he got them back. We had some wonderful ideas, such as, keeping them away from something warm, keeping them in the fridge and keeping them out of the sun.

Remembrance Day♥️

Class 1 have been learning about Remembrance Day. We learned about Remembrance Day is, why it is importance and how we mark this occasion;

We discussed the importance of poppies and what they symbolised and using lots of different materials, created our our poppies. Using Lego bricks we stamped a poppy petal design and then painted our stems using green paint, we were able to create lots of beautiful flowers. We also used pipe cleaners, cupcake cases and pom poms to make our own flowers and even made some from play doh.

Happy Halloween!

This week in Class 1, we have been enjoying lots of exciting Halloween activities!

Adding the legs onto the spider after the wicked witch’s spell took them all away!!

We have also been reading the book, Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. We focused on lots of different vocabulary including; broomstick, witch, cauldron and wand.

We then made our own spells! We chose one ingredient at a time from the witch’s cauldron and using our new spelling technique, wrote the word:
Say the word
Sound talk the word
Sound talk using segmenting fingers
Talk about how many sounds are in the word
Write it

In My Heart

This week we have been reading the story ‘In My Heart’ a book all about feelings! We discussed different feelings and times we have felt certain ways and used our Zones of Regulation to talk about how we could get ourselves back into the Green Zone.

We then created our own hearts, filled with things that make us happy and help us to feel calm, happy and regulated again

This week Class 1 have been exploring our zones of regulation

We discussed the different zones (green, blue, yellow and red) and how we might feel when we’re in those zones. We shared ideas on different ways to regulate our emotions, to help get us back into the green zone.

Teaching self regulation to children is so important, so we introduced our ‘Zones of Regulation’ in the classroom, where each child can use their picture to show which zone they are in throughout the day, to help children recognise their feelings and respond in an appropriate way

Graduation!

This week we all became Early Years Graduates! We celebrated an amazing year in Reception and shared some fabulous memories of our time! We loved surprising our grown ups with our graduation after they came in just expecting our end of year show!

We have all had a truly amazing year in Reception and can’t wait to start our new adventures in Year 1!

This week was Class 1’s last assembly in Reception, we all did an amazing job retelling the the story – Zog and the Flying Doctors! We all used big loud voices and loved acting out how the characters were feeling!

Number Bonds!

This week in Maths we have continued looking at our number bonds to 5 and 10! We did an amazing job starting with our number bonds to 5.

1 + 4 = 5 – Miya

2+3=5 – Maxwell

4+1=5 – Eleanor

3+2=5 – Charlie

After cementing our knowledge of our number bonds to 5 we then started looking again at our number bonds to 10. We have done this in a variety of ways including using numicon and tens frames with 2 different coloured counters.

8+2=10 – Leo

3+7=10 – Layton

4+6=10 – Aluna-Rae

After practising our number bonds to 10 we then wrote the number sentence in our books, we did so well!
