We’ve had a special visitor in school today from Dogs Trust! We have been learning how we can keep dogs happy and how we can keep ourselves safe, too! We know that we shouldn’t pet a stranger’s dog – we need to ask the owner AND ask the dog by letting them sniff us, first!

We role played some various situations:
⭐️ petting a dog while it is sleeping
⭐️ petting a dog while it is eating
⭐️ being noisy in front of a dog

We now know that we shouldn’t pet a dog while it is sleeping or eating and why this may be. We understand how it can make a dog feel when they are petted during these times.

We learnt the following rules today, with help from special volunteers who acted them out:

If a dog is sleeping we should leave it alone.
✅ If a dog is eating we should leave it alone.
✅ We should always be quiet around dogs.
✅ Dogs don’t like hugs, they like gentle strokes.
✅ If a dog takes your toy, you should tell a grown-up.
