Class 6

Year 2 had a great time on their trip to South Shields last week. They enjoyed being on the ferry, visiting the Museum, looking at the famous landmarks, visiting Marine Park and having fun at the beach. A lovely day was had by all!

Class 6 have been learning all about a famous botanist called Jane Colden. A botanist is a person who studies and observes plants. Did you know that Jane Colden was the first female botanist in America?

We enjoyed looking closely at some flowers using magnifying glasses. Then we sketched different parts of the flowers and wrote lots of interesting facts about Jane Colden in our books.

Class 6 had a great time on their sports afternoon. They enjoyed taking part in lots of fun games!

Our Year 1 children are preparing for their Phonics Screening Check next week by having extra practise of reading ‘alien words’! Alien words are words that are made up and simply don’t make sense – children must rely purely on their Phonics knowledge to segment and blend them. I have been so impressed with our progress in reading this year, and I’ve reassured the class that trying their best is all that matters!

Class 6 are reading a fantasy story called Lily, Windy and the Witch during story time each day. The children have written some fantastic character descriptions of Windy – the magical fairy from the story.

In computing we have been learning all about coding and programming. We have used Sphero and Code-a-pillar in class, giving the robot instructions in sequences to direct them from a start position to the finish position.

In our Geography lessons we have been learning about our local and the famous landmarks. We have been inspired by these for our art and design lessons. We have researched more information about the famous Marsden Rock in South Shields and also other landmarks in the North East like the Angel of the North. Look at the amazing information and the sketches of our Town Hall.

Year 2 are learning all about Judaism in RE this term. The children enjoyed handling a range of Jewish artefacts; including a Torah, tallit, kippah, Hanukkah menorah and the Star of David symbol. The children then wrote sentences describing each artefact and what it is used for.
