Class 1 have had a busy week rehearsing and performing as part of the Reception and Year 1 Summer production, “The North Wind and the Sun”.
They all had so much fun and sang so beautifully throughout. Thank you to all the grown-ups for coming!

We have had lots of fun learning all about the farm this week. Here are some photos from our visit to Hall Hill Farm on Thursday.

We held lots of different animals, but always had to remember to wash our hands afterwards.

Then to top it all off, we had lots of fun playing in the soft play.

This week in Class 1 we have been learning how to share quantities and objects. We already know how to half an amount, and we know that this means splitting evenly into two groups, so we used this knowledge to help us share into groups of 3, 4, and even 5.
In phonics our focus sounds this week were ‘igh’ and ‘ure’. Here are some of us playing ‘igh’ bingo, drawing pictures to represent ‘igh’ words, and writing ‘igh’ words in glitter.
On Wednesday it was Purple Day!
We all came into school dressed in something purple and donated £1 to the Kidsafe charity. We talked about lots of ways we can keep ourselves safe, including on the road, at the beach, in the sun, and online. We had lots of fun in the process!
This week we have learning about the properties of 3D shapes.
We passed a feely bag around the circle and chose a shape to describe to everyone else.
We talked about the amount of faces and corners, and whether the shapes feel round or flat, as well as comparing the shapes in terms of their similarities and differences.
We’ve also been looking at the shape of everyday items by going on a 3D shape hunt in our outdoor area. In pairs, one child took photos of each shape on the iPad, and one child recorded using a tally chart. We then compiled all of our results to find out which shape we saw the most of.

This week we have been practising halving numbers. We know already that this means to share into two equal groups, and can already half single digit numbers. This week the children have been halving numbers up to 20 and beyond!
In literacy the children have also been working hard to extend their sentences, and to use adjectives. See if you can spot the adjectives in their sentences!
Our new topic for this half term is castles. The children have had lots of fun this week playing in their new castle role play area, and dressing up like kings and queens!
The children have had loads of fun meeting real-life pirate, Captain Jack, this afternoon. They have learned all about what life would be like on board a pirate ship, listened very carefully, and answered lots of questions to show him what they have learnt this half term.
They also played lots of fun pirate games, and three of the children won some rather questionable prizes! What a perfect end to our pirate topic, thank you Captain Jack!
I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to see our assembly this morning! The children have worked very hard all term on this topic and they were all very excited to share with you all of the work they have done. I’m sure you’ll agree that they were amazing!

This week we have been learning about time. We began by discussing units of time, and investigated what sorts of things we can do in a minute. Here are some of the boys seeing how many beads they can thread in one minute.
We then moved on to looking at o’clock times. We talked about where the big hand and small hand need to be to show each time, and even moved on to talking about one hour earlier/later. We have gotten really good at making given times on individual clocks…
… and even drawing the hands in place ourselves!

Class One had lots of fun at their Christmas party. We played lots of games and had some delicious party food.
