This week, class 4 have been reading the story ‘Handa’s Suprise’ by Eileen Brown. In the story, Handa takes a basket of fruit to her friend, Akeyo. This week we got to try some of the fruits in Handa’s basket! We tried;
banana
mango
pineapple
orange
tangerines
avocado
and even passion fruit!! We then used adjectives to describe what the fruits looked like, smelt like and how they tasted. The children were amazing and tried all the different fruits – although some were definitely more popular than others!!
This week in science, Year 1 have been looking at different animal diets. We learnt that;
Carnivores eat meat
Herbivores eat plants
Omnivores eat both
We then looked at which animals were carnivores, which were herbivores and which were omnivores before we looked at what food might be included in their diet and grouped them depending on this.
On Tuesday, Year 1 performed their Christmas show for their adults. We are so proud of how hard the children worked to learn their lines, as well as the words to all the songs they had to sing – they were absolutely AMAZING! They delivered their lines clearly and sang so beautifully.
Well done Year 1!!
This week, we had Laura from the Waste and Recycling Centre come into school to talk to us about the importance of recycling and to help us understand what can and can’t be recycled. We then used recycled materials to create our own Christmas baubles♻️
We were so proud of our baubles – we can’t wait to display them on our Christmas trees!!
This week in maths, we have been learning to compare groups using mathematical language such as “greater than, less than or equal to”. We also looked at finding the greatest and smallest groups
Last Friday, year 1 took part in a mini tennis festival at Temple Park. We learned lots of new tennis skills, like;
How to serve
Backhand hit
Forehand hit
We had lots of fun and enjoyed putting our new skills into practice with a game of floor tennis!
This week in PSHE, we have been thinking about how we are different to our friends. We talked about what it means to be different and how amazing it is that we are all different to each other and how it makes us unique. We then discussed ways we can be different and worked with a partner to think of ways we are different to each other
In Geography, we have been exploring the four countries of the UK. We started by locating the UK on a map and finding out which countries it is made up of. We then looked at England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in more detail and explored some of their landmarks and their flags
This week class 4 have been celebrating World Mental Health Day
