Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the land of Fairy Tales

24th January 2025Angela Ruffles

This half term the children are listening to lots of different Fairy Tales and talking about the different characters.

They have been working hard to make their favourite characters from the stories that they have heard and retelling their favourite stories.

They have made Pinnochio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves this week.

Can you name any of the other Fairy Tales from the display so far?

Nursery

Pets and Peter Pan

17th January 2025Angela Ruffles

The 2 year old children have been talking about their pets and their favourite types of pets. They have then made their own paper plate pet. We have cats, dogs, fish and rabbits all in Nursery at the minute.

The 30 hour children have been reading Peter Pan and talking about how unkind Captain Hook was. They all wish that they could fly like Peter Pan and Tinkerbell.

Once Upon a Time in Nursery

10th January 2025Angela Ruffles

The children have been very excited to come back to Nursery, and our new starters have settled in extremely well.

The 2 year old children are going to be learning all about pets this half term and how to look after them.

The older children are learning all about Fairy Tales. We will be reading lots of different stories with the children and talking about the different characters.

We have been beginning to make our role plays this week as they decided we needed a “big fairy tale princess castle” and a “Gingerbread House to eat”.

Nursery

Christmas visitor

20th December 2024Angela Ruffles

The children have had a lovely week enjoying a Christmas party and then having a visit from a very special man.

They had to watch carefully out of the window to see if they could see him flying away on his sleigh with his reindeer, but we missed him as he was so fast and we all must have blinked at the same time.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Nursery

Pink pigs and Christmas Trees

6th December 2024Angela Ruffles

The 2 year old children have been looking at the colour pink this week. They have read lots of Peppa Pig stories and have mixed their own pink paint to make their own pigs.

The 30 hour children have made a 3D Christmas tree. They had to make sure that both of the pieces were the same size for it to work.

Nursery

All about the colour brown.

29th November 2024Angela Ruffles

The 2 year old children have been on a colour hunt and finding lots of things that are brown. They have made leaf prints and conker rolling pictures.

The 30 hour children have been finding out about hibernation. They have been learning about which animals hibernate and what they do before they go to sleep. They decided it sounded like a good idea to sleep while it was cold, but that they would need somewhere to keep themselves warm and dry. They all decided to make a hut together, even including a fire.

Nursery

Road Safety

22nd November 2024Angela Ruffles

We have had a visit from the Road Safety Officer today to talk to us about staying safe next to roads. We found out how to use a pedestrian crossing, and to only cross when the green man is flashing and it is beeping.

We know how to use a zebra crossing and that we need to hold hands with an adult. Most of all we need to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK before we cross the road.

We know what a lollipop person does and that they wear a special uniform that is bright so that they can be seen in the dark.

Nursery

Remembrance and other big events

15th November 2024Angela Ruffles

We have had yet another busy week in Nursery.

We have been learning all about Remembrance and held a 1 minute silence while watching the King laying a wreath at the cenotaph.

We have made lots of different types of poppies and wreaths… even printing with apples and plungers.

We wore odd socks for anti bullying and talked about how everyone is different.

We have also dressed up in spots and had lots of fun to raise money for children in need.

Nursery

Bonfire Night and Diwali celebrations

8th November 2024Angela Ruffles

The children have had a very busy week making lots of different firework pictures and talking about how to keep safe. They have also been finding out about Diwali and have had a go at making Rangoli patterns and Mehndi designs on hands.

Nursery

Halloween and games

25th October 2024Angela Ruffles

We have enjoyed lots of Halloween activities this week.

We have dressed up as witches and wizards to make magic potions.

We have decorated pumpkin shapes.

We have tried to use tweezers to catch spiders caught in a web.

We have used scissors to cut art straws to make our own skeletons.

We have drawn around our hands and cut them out to make ghosts.

The 30 hour children have made up their own games too.

They had to move their characters around and count the squares, then their character was able to eat a ‘biscuit’ if it landed on one.

They then made a track for the large wheels to roll down. If it came off you had to start again.

What fantastic teamwork!
