21st November 2025Angela Ruffles

The children in the 30 hour room have been continuing to learn about all of the different animals that hibernate. This week they have been learning all about hedgehogs and bears and they have been making caves for their bears to go to sleep in.

The 2 year old group have been learning about things that are brown. They have been mixing their own colours to make brown and using that to make hand prints to use to make their own owls. They have even drawn their own owls, they are amazing!

The children in the main room are continuing to learn all about different celebrations. This week we have been learning all about birthdays. We have made party hats, play dough cakes and candles, paper chains to decorate the class and tried to write invitations to our friends.

We have also been enjoy lots of mark making activities. We had lots of messy fun.

The 2 year old children and the children in the main room have been learning all about fireworks and how to keep safe.

We have used lots of different media to make some amazing firework pictures and mark making activities while saying the sounds of the fireworks ‘bang’ ‘boom’ ‘wheeee’ ‘fizzzz’

Some of the children even made a firework style rocket using pop and sweets.

The 30 hour children are learning about hibernation. This week they have been completing tally charts of how many birds they can see and making their own birds and a hide. They will revisit this in the spring to see if there is more or less birds then.

Numbers and cutting skills

17th October 2025Angela Ruffles

All of the children in Nursery have been practicing their cutting skills this week.

The 2 year old children have also been using tweezers to help with their grip to pick up pom poms.

They even had time to make up their own band!

The children in the main room have been practicing their cutting by making their own number-blocks. We focused on a different number each day, some of the cutting was fantastic! We even tried to paint and draw the numbers.

The 30 hour children have been drawing their favourite food, then cutting pictures out of magazines to make their own plate of food.

They then wrote a list of everything they would need to finish making their bug hotel nice and cosy for the Winter and enjoyed collecting objects from their list to add to the hotel.

Nursery

Our sense of taste

10th October 2025Angela Ruffles

There has been lots of tasting going on in Nursery this week.

The 2 year old group have been tasting lots of raw and cooked, sweet and sour, salty, hot and cold things. They were a little unsure about the raw onion and lemon but loved the donuts, ice lollies and hot chocolate.

The 30 hour children have been doing lots of work about Indian culture and have enjoyed tasting some Indian food. They have had rice, poppadoms, samosas.

The children in the main room have been continuing their work on Nursery Rhymes.

They have been making their own books, making models, drawing pictures and even deciding that they would make a fire to cook marshmallows on for Humpty Dumpty in case he got cold and hungry while he was outside lying on the ground.

Nursery

All about me

19th September 2025Angela Ruffles

The 2 year old children have been learning about their hands and the sense ‘touch’ this week.

They have been finding out what they can use their hands for, and have been exploring the environment looking for ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ items to sort.

With my hands I can…..Paint ….Build

“I can put my coat on”

The children in the main room have continued to learn about themselves and what they look like. They have drawn self portraits and have been practicing with scissors by cutting up photos of themselves and sticking them back together like a jigsaw.

The 30 hour children have been learning about other cultures. They have started to explore African cultures and are learning about the different people and where they live. This week they have been learning that some people live in mud huts. Today they have had a go at making their own mud hut village.

Nursery

All about ourselves

12th September 2025Angela Ruffles

The 2 year old children are learning about themselves and their senses. This week they have made paper plate faces and tried some self portraits. The first of the 5 senses they are learning about is their sight. They have explored using binoculars and magnifying glasses to look at things and have then made some of their own.

The children in the main room are also learning all about themselves. We have made paper plate faces, faces out of play-dough and even drawn around one of our friends to talk about the different parts of the body singing ‘heads, shoulders, knees and toes’.

Life-cycles, aeroplanes and artisits

11th July 2025Angela Ruffles

The children have all had a busy fun filled week within Nursery. The 2 year old children have been learning all about the life-cycle of a hen. They have explored how to keep an egg safe by trying to stop it falling off the wall like Humpty Dumpty. They have investigated raw and cooked eggs and even made their own egg and cress sandwiches using the cress they grew themselves last week!

Just checking that they got the everything in the correct order.

(When checking the cooked and raw eggs)

“It’s not the same” -Junior

“It’s got a yellow ball in the middle” – Hetti

They even helped to clean up their mess!

The 30 hour children have managed to make their own aeroplanes and test them in the garden.

Some of the other children have been exploring how to make portraits of their friends.

I can see the likeness. ‍♀️

Nursery
