This week we’ve been learning the properties of 3D shapes. We have been describing shapes, naming shapes, and finding shapes in our environment.
We know that 2D means flat, and 3D means FAT! Here we are sorting shapes into 2D and 3D.

This week is Child Safety Week. In Class 1 we have spent the week learning about different ways of keeping ourselves safe. We learned how to cross the road safely, and some of us demonstrated this for our friends.
We also learned about fire safety. We drew a map of the school, labelled the fire exits, and drew a line to show our fire escape route.
We have also learnt about water safety. We talked about the dangers of water and how we can keep ourselves safe. Some of us then designed our own mascots to help us remember water safety.
Well done Class 1!
This week as part of our Understanding the World area of learning we have been making oceans in a bottle.
We used empty plastic bottles, and filled them with water, food colouring, oil and decorations such as sand, pebbles, and shells.
When you move the bottle gently from side to side it looks like waves crashing. It’s very calming!
This week in maths, Class 1 have been learning how to tell the time. Last week we looked at o’clock and we all grasped it so quickly we’re now looking at half past! We know that at half past the hour, the long hand is pointing down. Here we are making some o’clock and half past times using large sticks in the outdoor area.

This week in Class 1 we have been reading the story ‘Five Minutes to Bed’. We received a letter from the pirate crew in the story asking us to decide whether they should stay up or go to bed. We discussed the reasons for and against, then wrote our own letters back to the pirates in small groups.
This week in maths, we’ve been looking at numbers up to 100.
We’ve been using a 100 square to identify the numbers, fill in the missing squares, and even adding and subtracting using the 100 square!
Super maths! Well done, Class 1!
This week we have been estimating.
We know that it is a posh word for a guess, and it doesn’t matter if we are wrong as long as our guesses are sensible.
We’ve also been looking at rhyming words in literacy. Here, the girls have written some excellent sentences containing rhyming words! Well done girls!
This week in Class 1 we have been learning all about money!
We have learned to recognise 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, and 20p coins. We’ve even been adding coins together to reach a given amount.
Some of us have also used our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s to find the total amount of money in a purse.
Well done Class 1!
This week in Class 1 we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk. We created a story walk to help us remember the events in the right order, and then had a go at retelling the story to our friends.
It is also SCIENCE WEEK this week. On Tuesday we planted our very own magic beans in ziplock bags. We made predictions about what we think they might grow into, and we have hung them from the window in the classroom to grow. We will keep checking back regularly to see what happens.
This Wednesday we celebrated (a rescheduled) World Book Day! We all came into school in our favourite under the sea fancy dress costumes. Here we all are in our classroom reading area!
We also wrote some fantastic pieces of writing about sharks. We read the question, and provided a silly answer. We remembered to use capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.
We also received our KidsSafe certificates this week for completing the Early Years KidsSafe programme. We were presented with them in assembly on Thursday. We will miss KS but we have learnt lots of valuable ways of keeping ourselves safe.
