This week in Class 1 we have been learning all about money!

We have learned to recognise 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, and 20p coins. We’ve even been adding coins together to reach a given amount.

Some of us have also used our knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s to find the total amount of money in a purse.

Well done Class 1!

This week in Class 1 we have been reading Jack and the Beanstalk. We created a story walk to help us remember the events in the right order, and then had a go at retelling the story to our friends.

It is also SCIENCE WEEK this week. On Tuesday we planted our very own magic beans in ziplock bags. We made predictions about what we think they might grow into, and we have hung them from the window in the classroom to grow. We will keep checking back regularly to see what happens.

This Wednesday we celebrated (a rescheduled) World Book Day! We all came into school in our favourite under the sea fancy dress costumes. Here we all are in our classroom reading area!

We also wrote some fantastic pieces of writing about sharks. We read the question, and provided a silly answer. We remembered to use capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops.

We also received our KidsSafe certificates this week for completing the Early Years KidsSafe programme. We were presented with them in assembly on Thursday. We will miss KS but we have learnt lots of valuable ways of keeping ourselves safe.

This week in Class 1 we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We made a story map to help us remember each event in the story, and then began to use the story format to write our own stories about very hungry animals.

The children came up with some fantastic ideas of different animals they could write about, and were very imaginative in the food that they would eat!

We also talked about different adjectives we could use to describe the food, for example, delicious, juicy, yummy. Ask your child if they can remember an adjective we have used this week.

We have been to Temple Park this week to take part in the Early Years multisport festival. We took part in activities like balancing, rugby, tennis, basketball and dodgeball.

This Friday was also our class assembly. As Tuesday was Safer Internet Day, we talked about how to stay safe online. Thank you to all the grown-ups for coming, and well done Class 1!

This week in Class 1 we have been learning how to collect data using a tally chart.

We know that each line represents one person or item. Some of us are getting very good at remembering to cross every five!

We’ve been sorting items in jars, counting cars of each colour, discussing ways we travel to school, and asking our friends about their favourite superheroes. Then displaying all the results using a tally chart.

This week Class 1 have been learning how to read number sentences.

We have been recognising the +, – and = signs and learning what they mean. We know that the add sign means ‘more’, so the numbers get bigger, and the subtract sign means ‘less’, so the numbers will get smaller.

We have been using lost of different practical objects to solve number sentences, including play dough, pegs and Lego.

This week in Class 1 we have been reading the story ‘Winnie in Winter’. The children have created their own winter scenes, labelled Winnie’s house, and wrote sentences with our own ideas.

We’ve also been learning the names of some 3D shapes. We have been looking at 3D shapes in our surroundings and finding real life objects to match the shape.

This week we have started our new topic for this half term, Antarctica!

We have been learning about Arctic animals and describing them using interesting adjectives.

We have also been making our very own Arctic animals for display.
